bigger, Faster, Stronger

While in class we was watching the movie "Bigger, Stronger, Faster". The movie illustrates the con and pros about using anabolic steroids in sports, which given the time that we had to watch the movie we were only got to watch mostly about the pros of using anabolic steroids. It has made me realized that everything that I have learned about anabolic steroids was from the media which brought a point in my head, why didn’t I research on this issue instead of listening to the media? After getting educated on this I've come to realize that it has affected my theory on society. Initially in my theory paper 1, I sided my beliefs with the critical theory, however this movie has made me to change my beliefs in the interactionists theory (Which focuses on the experience rather than jump to the problem). The reason why I'm basing my belief on the interactionist theory is because this movie has reinforced my idea that I can't believe what is around me until I do my own research. Overall, even though we did not get the chance to finish the movie we should all learn that we should thoroughly research an issue before making a blind judgment based on what the media or anything tries to portray it as. - Sophearun D. Well, i understand the point trying to be made here, but what i don't get is why there would be a post worded as this one was. Weird.

I agree that the media has played a critical role in shaping the beliefs of many Americans. Steroid scandals in any sport have proven to be detrimental to that sport, yet many people are unaware of the true impact steroids have on a person. I feel that people need to be further educated on the impact of steroids before they pass judgment on an individual.- Jonathon S. KIN 332I Secton: 3017

I think regardless of the pros and cons of anabolic steroids, they are still illegal. You are still breaking the law, you are still supporting illegal distribution of a banned substance. Perhaps the media molds peoples views about steroids. Perhaps steroids aren't as bad as other legal substances (alcohol). But like I said before, breaking the law is a big no-no. These guys that use steroids support criminals, criminals that are probably making bank on their illegal operations. And we all know what people do with money.....they protect it. And why wouldn't criminals protect their illegal operations with illegal security/protection. Sure, steroids help people with debilitating diseases. Those people have the right for a better life. But laws aren't guidelines....they are mandatory rules. The punishment should fit the crime. We also know what steroids make athletes do, and I'm not talking about improved performance, I'm talking about lying. Some lying to Congress!!! We need to rein down a fist of fiery on these fake people. Genetic alterations seems to be the next big thing. Can you image the next generation of athletes being genetically altered for more maximal performance. I can't imagine.
