Tiger Woods Scandal...

Lately, Tiger Woods’ name has been all over the media—television, magazines, the internet—and none of this media attention has anything to do with his golfing career. Now, it is my belief that the media is being a little too critical on Tiger. The media originally made Tiger Woods out to be this perfect all around athlete, happily married, and never screwing up—not in his golfing career and not in his personal life either. Tiger is human he makes mistakes, now I am in no way condoning what he did to his wife, but I do believe that some information should remain confidential. I am also curious to know if the media would be as critical on a famous white male golfer as they are on Tiger Woods. Does the fact that he is part African American have anything to do with the media’s judgmental eye? I can recall Kobe Bryant’s numerous scandals over the years, as well as the recent media spotlight on Serena Williams’ outburst but none regarding famous white athletes. White or black, male or female, athletes should be allowed privacy in regards to their personal lives. Instead our society idolizes these athletes and turns them into celebrities but once these athletes show any sign that they are normal, average, everyday people who make just as many mistakes as the rest of us these fans suddenly turn on their idolized athletes. Also, why is it the media chooses to highlight negative aspects and events occurring within the world of sports? Why not highlight the positive events?

Tiger Woods will continue to be a household name in world of professional golf and I agree that little is being said about Tiger's golf game. I think that's because Tiger Woods meant more than 'golf.' Tiger is a hero to many people, and for many reasons. Somwehow, even though we are all (supposed to be) adults, the truth is we are still looking for heroes. These heroes must be much more than just the best athletes. They need to have the best homes, cars, spouses, kids, pets, etc. Why? Because our heroes represent our grandest dreams.
If Tiger Woods were not the hero that he is, then his indiscretions wouldn't matter. Personally, if Mr. Woods is able to truly make his amends, and return to golfing, then he will be a hero. Why? Because a true hero will do what is necessary to overcome adversity through humility.

I agree with you that the media comes down way too hard on sports celebrities. They should be entitled to their own lives. If the media is going to blow up huge, negative issues that occur around specific athletes, they should have accurately depicted their lives from the very beginning of their fame. Do we actually know how much of that story is even true and what is exaggerated? Most of all, I agree with you that positive occurrences in sports celebrities lives should be highlighted. I never understood why, especially on the news, only the scandals, the murders, the kidnappings, and everything else horrible that you hope never happens to you, are reported. People always say that the negative stuff is what sells and creates the biggest following. I beg to differ because nobody has ever tried to report and blow up positive things that are occurring in our society and in the personal lives of big name athletes.

I agree that the media is being a little too critical of Tiger Woods. Granted, I do not condone his actions either. But I beleive the reason that the media is being so hard on him is largely to do to his race because he was a role model for all African Americans. Tiger was the poster boy for golf and served as a hero for many people. Tiger was put up on a pedestal by the media prior to these revelations. The media is making a larger issue of it because our bubble has burst. Of course the media loves focusing on the negative because society loves drama and gossip. Let's face it that's what sells and there is a high demand for it. I also think that Tiger is being judged harsher because of his profession. Golf has long upheld the country club image of always being prim and proper. Basketball and football players cheating on their wives is yesterdays news! We have heard it all before. There has yet to be any publicly released scandals about professional golfers. The media is making a big deal out of it because he is a fallen African American hero from the up tight country club.

Many of the arguments that have been posted have valid points. Although I do agree with some of the comments that were made ,many of us are forgetting the fact that Mr.Woods did commit adultery. Don't get me wrong, Mr.Woods have done a great deal of service to our community and have displayed many humble acts on and off the field but we are forgetting the fact that Mr.Woods put all of this on himself. I do agree that the media have been unfair and covering this story more than they should, but are they really to be blamed ? Mr.Woods have put himself in a position where many people look up too him and want to be just like him. Others view Mr.Woods as an idol, a heroic figure and an icon. Mr.Woods should have known that this would happen because of the status and the position he is in. Mr.Woods is one of the most recognizable celebrity in the world where the slightest mistake can be seen. Although I do believe no one is perfect, I feel that Mr.Woods should have known that there are people out there who are welling to do whatever it takes for a little money and fame.

I agree that the media was a little harsh on Tigers' actions, because what Tiger has done off of the course does not change the fact that he has completely dominated his sport on the course. It is sad to see that since a man made one mistake, that the jeopardy of his whole life and career are now on the line. I also am not condoning what Tiger has done, but it is sad that the only reason this story is so big is because the media who is now hounding Tiger, is the same media who has made him out to be the perfect role model, idol, and hero. I believe that Tiger will eventually come back to dominating the sport of golf and in doing so people will in time forget his negative actions and once again see him as one of the greatest athletes ever.

The tiger woods scandal didn't shock me at all. basically your not gonna believe this but I used to work at a golf course up in central california. And a co worker told me her friend was hooking up with Tiger Woods. This was three years prior to the major scandal. I didn't believe my co worker at the time. However Once I found out he was basically seeing multiple women for quite sometime who shared a common occupation; which was a cocktail waitress I now believe her. As to why the media likes to put negative drama in the media especially towards black athletes I am not quite sure; although sex sells we all now that. However his wife came out with a golf club extremely pissed off. Probably because it wasn't the first time she caught him. Moreover They do put white athletes scandals in the news too. For example Ben Rothisburger the quarter back for the Pittsburgh Steelers who was involved in a sexual assault scandal, that still lingers in the news today. Ultimately ratings controls everything and the more rating you receive the more money you get and its always about the money. Also tiger woods and kobe Bryant are both the best of there class so it makes for a more interesting story because they both don't have playboys reputations prior to there scandals rather they are family men who have wife's and children and are respected in the community , so it shows that even these men these talented and gifted family men make unforgiving mistakes. I don't support there behavior but i am not shocked what so ever. Pro athletes both men and women have access to sex a lot more then the average person but you cannot use that as an excuse.
