The NHL Lockout!

Why is it that professional sports are all about the money nowadays?  It is not the athletes who are wanting the most money, it is the coaches.  The NHL generates a $3.4 billion revenue and the issue with it being so high is that the teams do not know how to split it.  The lockout reached its 78th day on December 2 and it is not looking good for the season to start.  Even if it does begin, hopefully by this next year, their will be a huge cut in the amount of games played.
A major problem is that this is the 4th shut down of the NHL since 1992.  What is that saying about how they are managing the league?  Moreover, this lockout is not only taking a toll on the hockey business, but on fans and local businesses.  To not watch and follow hockey is a catastrophe to many people.  I know that me and my family love to watch and attend games as much as we can, but I can only imagine how many other people feel the same.  If sports were solely about the game, there would not be any problems that would need to be faced.  However, the fact that life revolves around money and the selfishness and greed that people have is what makes this world such a tough place to be in.
In the end, I feel that sports are enjoyable not only for the athletes, but mostly for the fans as they are the support system.  The game of hockey is a wonderful one, and is probably, if not, the most entertaining sport there is.  Without watching players get in fights or be in the cooled down arena, people will lose interest in the game.  That is not true.  The last time the hockey league went on  “strike,” in a sense, the season after had a greater attendance rate than the prior year.  I really hope the hockey league straightens up so that people can enjoy watching hockey once again.
