Kobe Bryant the youngest NBA player to ever reach 30,000 points

 Tonight on December 5, 2012

Only 4 other players have reached this goal in their career: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Michael Jordan, and Wilt Chamberlain, all of whom but Jordan played for the . That's very impressive company, obviously, and the only question now is just how far Kobe will get before he retires. Adbul-Jabbar, the all-time leader, is more than 8,000 points away. Assuming that Kobe averages 25 points per game for the rest of his career ,a liberal estimate considering his age,it will take him more than four full seasons to set the all-time record. Perhaps he'll settle for besting the player he's been compared to (unfavorably) for most of his career, Michael Jordan, who sits at third all-time with 32,292 points. All of Bryant's points have come as a member of the Lakers, and it looks increasingly likely that he'll retire widely acknowledged as the best player in franchise history.

Watching Kobe tonight was absolutely insane. With all this talk of Lebron James being the closet to Jordan the media seems to shy away from Kobe’s accomplishments. Finally after reaching the 30,000 mark, Kobe is once again in the spotlight. This is the perfect timing too. With Nash almost able to return and the team struggling to find wins, Kobe’s rekindled spark as the league’s dominant force will slowly guide the Lakers back into true contention form. Kobe is starting the season with one of his most efficient percentages scoring in fewer shots then he is accustomed to. With the 30,000 mark finally out of the way, he will now play with absolutely no distractions and hopefully it will snap the Lakers out of their funk. Being a Thunder fan I want the Lakers to pick their game up so we can play them in the Western Conference Finals again.

Without a doubt, Kobe Bryant will be known as the best player to ever play for the Lakers. His loyalty to the Los Angeles Lakers is amazing. He hasn't been with another team or ever really made it seem like he seriously wanted to leave the Lakers. He has taken the Lakers to the playoffs almost every single year he has played. Kobe Bryant has even fought through a lot of adversity as a professional athlete. He is disliked by so many for either being a great player, being a ball hog, or legal issues. Even with all of these issues he kept playing basketball and kept winning games by being a leader on the floor and making clutch shots at the end of games. Kobe has also showed that he gives a substantial amount of effort into being the best NBA athlete he could possibly be. Without a doubt Kobe Bryant has earned the spot as the best Laker of all time.

I'm a huge lakeshow fan and was ecstatic to see Kobe join the ranks of only five other NBA legends. I feel like he has fallen under Lebron's shadow but this feat should shut the haters up and put him once again in the spotlight as he deserves. He is the youngest player to ever accomplish this and until Lebron gets close to this landmark, I think there should be no question that Kobe is the best active player in the NBA. With this caliber of player Im not going to worry about the Lakers current funk, they have so much talent that its just a matter of time until they catch fire and end up beating the thunder in the western conference finals. :)

Laker fan since July 7th 1985 the day I was born and a Kobe fan since 1996 when he was drafted as the 13th overall draft pick by the Charlotte Hornets and then traded for Vlade Divac. I have seen mostly all of Kobe’s accomplishments, breaking nearly every record in his 17 year career like the most consecutive 40 plus and 50 plus games in a row for an example. I’ve also witnessed mind boggling games like the 62 point in three quarters game or the 81 point game where he shot over 60 percent and brought his team back from a 20 point deficit. Kobe reaching the 30,000 point mark where only 4 other players which were Lakers at some point have gotten to is a testament to Kobe’s hard work and dedication. Throughout his career Kobe has been judged and ridiculed for the way he is and wanting to be great. You can take anything from him except his heart as a player, his will to win, and his accomplishments. Kobe knows he won’t probably end up as the greatest statistically but he sets his goals high so he can be called “The Greatest” if not “One of the Greatest”. Kobe is definitely an all-time great in basketball and sports history, the greatest player and athlete in his generation, fierce competitor, and one of my favorite players of all-time.
